Loevestein Estate
In 1361, a knight called Diederic Loef of Horne built a castle in the middle of the Dutch countryside where the Meuse and Waal rivers converged. At the time, this was a perfect location for levying tolls. Today, it’s the ideal spot for a day out with friends and family.
There’s something here for everyone, be it in the castle, on the outer bailey or in the garrison. At the museum, you can learn virtually everything there is to know about Hugo Grotius, the Middle Ages and the Hollandic Water Line.
You can learn about weapons and gunpowder or get your feet wet battling high water in the cellars!

Soestdijk Royal Palace
Visit the royal palace which used to be the residence of her Royal Highness Juliana. You can access the palace, garden and surroundings and feel how it must have been to be a royal.
Pettingzoo ‘de Veenweide’
There is always something to explore at the petting zoo ‘de Veenweide’. This petting zoo is more than 40 years old and is a great location for children up to 12 years old to learn, play and discover the life of animals. The play garden for the children and the terrace for parents also makes this a great day out in the country.
Climbing forest Gooi Eemland
Climbing Throw Eemland in Lage Vuursche is the kingdom of the Climbing Forests. With no fewer than 10 routes it is a true climbing paradise. The routes scale up in difficulty and heights range from 2 metres to no less than 22.5 meters. A wonderful activity to partake in and be free and let go as you know the only way is up!

A local street market at a great location, where homemade delicacies are offered for sale by passionate local producers.

Visit a fortress or join one of the evening hikes. This site offers various activities to enjoy the values of nature.
Together with the gnomes from the forest, the national forest conservation has set out a discovery trail. Starting point can be found at ‘Eethuys-cafe de Generaal, where you receive a point cap, the big book of wisdom and other required gnome-gear. Once completed all challenges, it’s time to collect your certificate at the restaurant.

De Boswerf
On the edge of the National Park of the ‘Utrechtse Heuvelrug’ , just in the middle of the forest of Zeist, you can find thevisitor centre of ‘de Boswerf’
There is much to discover and do. Wonder through the garden with plants, eat, watch beehives being cleaned, explore the tipi tent and the fireplace.
Of course you can find a playing field, where you can create your own mud by experimenting with water and sand. Go for it, success for kids guaranteed.
Suggestion: take the TER BOS picnic blanket with you, as well as the picnic gear which is available for you to use. Sit back and relax. When it’s time to go home, don’t forget to take some fresh mint from the garden, so you can put the kettle on when you get home!
